NEW COMERS POST 1

Who: OPEN TO ALL
What: The first wave of newcomers arrive in the hospital.
Where: The Hospital, Center City
When: July 26
Warnings: Please tag any smut or triggers in the comment subject line.

The common room is just as brightly lit and white as the rest of the hospital. There are some scattered seats - large plush chairs and stiff looking couches, as well as wooden chairs at tables - and a TV blaring local soap operas in the corner. A few long tables are set up along the walls, each with a sign dangling down from the front to inform newcomers of what they can find here. Housing, job opportunities, and the Proxima Gamma Information Desk. Minus a few pamphlets about the unique attractions the island has to offer, there isn’t really that much of use on the last table. It’s clearly meant more for tourists than people who have been kidnapped.

Another set of tables hold a variety of snacks; fruits, vegetables, various candies, as well as a table with water, punch, and soda. No alcohol, unfortunately - this is a hospital, after all. You’ll have to leave to go find a bar for something stronger than that.

There’s not much place else to go - so come on in, settle down, and maybe find a familiar face, if you’re lucky.

Well that was unexpected. Ed's eyes widened a fraction at the site of the tools. Color him slightly impressed. It seemed like a lot of excess, but he imagined it could come in handy. "If Winry shows up here, don't let her catch sight of that. She'll try to take your arm apart and put it back together again without even asking."

"Not gonna lie that sounds horrifying." Rethinking the picking Winry's brain thing.

"So what are you looking for?"

"Winry's pretty scary." Of course, the tone he used when talking about her seemed to say the exact opposite. It was more or less adoration and longing, not sure if she was here with him, or if he was going to be facing this place with just his brother.

He shrugged, glancing around, glad to see no nurses nearby. "Answers." He turned down another hall, glancing in through an open door that was nothing but another patients room. "They keep shooing me away from any of the good stuff, though. Unsurprisingly. But I'm not gonna just sit in a common room, waiting around for more directions."

"Well its just nurses, right? And you've got like, combat arm there." She thought a moment.

"Or maybe you could make some kind of distraction and I could sneak in? Where are some of the good areas?"

"I don't hurt innocent people," he said pretty sternly. Nurses might be keeping information, but he had the idea that they weren't behind the actual kidnapping. It was a gray area to some, but this sort of thing was all black and white for Ed.

A distraction, though... "Mmmm. There's an entrance to the operating rooms about two halls down from here. It's probably where they put in everyone's chips before we woke up. And there are a few doors that lead to some other sections of the hospital, a science wing I think? But they won't let me anywhere near the doors."

"What's the security like?"

Kim also cast around, her cybernetic eye flicking to black as she scanned the walls for electronics, seeking out all the hidden cameras.

"Of course it'll be hard to do anything with all these cameras around."

Unsurprisingly, Ed came from a place where there literally weren't any cameras, and then went on to another place that also didn't have any, so he looked... confused. Cameras were large and clunky in Amestris, so he was looking around for something more obvious. "I don't see any cameras. You sure you're not crazy?"
misanthropicmezzode: (hmm?)

[personal profile] misanthropicmezzode 2015-08-02 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Uh, no, you didn't know about the cameras? I mean some of them are pretty obvious like..." she points up to a more traditional security camera fixture, hidden behind a mirrored silver dome.

He glanced at the dome, raising an eyebrow, and looking back to her with that obviously look of 'this bitch is nuts.' "... Cameras don't look like that."
misanthropicmezzode: (tools)

Okay right, we're talking iron age tech here. "No, see-"

She walked over to the camera, and raised her hand up. Her tools snaked into the crevice between the wall and the dome and unscrewed the mirrored dome, which she grabbed, revealing a typical security camera underneath.

"Camera. The dome is kind of a lens, giving a wide angle shot of the entire hallway, and it also serves to kind of hide the fact that you're under surveillance, even though everyone kind of knows that the dome means 'camera.' Out of sight, out of mind."

Well, while Ed was all for learning, he also didn't really like being proven wrong so blatantly. Not to mention, that tiny thing didn't look anything like the cameras he knew. Not that anything here looked anything like he knew.

Either way, it caused him to cross his arms, the clear look of a pouting child showing in his eyes, even if he tried to keep it off his facial features. "That doesn't look anything like the stuff we've got back home."
misanthropicmezzode: (confused)

"Well duh, because you're like a century behind the technology here. And you've also got some alternate technological development going, either due to the specifics of the war, or maybe due to the resources available or something."

More tech nerd girls. Just what he needed in his life. No matter what world he was in, they were everywhere.

"Maybe. I never thought about it much."
misanthropicmezzode: (put off)

"Then don't act like you know anything about it," she said, immediately defensive and prickly.

Kim was very wary of people who didn't 'think' about things. They tended to be judgmental about those who do. And anyone who claimed not to think about things, in her opinion, forfeited the right to throw their opinion around.
