What: The first wave of newcomers arrive in the hospital.

The common room is just as brightly lit and white as the rest of the hospital. There are some scattered seats - large plush chairs and stiff looking couches, as well as wooden chairs at tables - and a TV blaring local soap operas in the corner. A few long tables are set up along the walls, each with a sign dangling down from the front to inform newcomers of what they can find here. Housing, job opportunities, and the Proxima Gamma Information Desk. Minus a few pamphlets about the unique attractions the island has to offer, there isn’t really that much of use on the last table. It’s clearly meant more for tourists than people who have been kidnapped.

Another set of tables hold a variety of snacks; fruits, vegetables, various candies, as well as a table with water, punch, and soda. No alcohol, unfortunately - this is a hospital, after all. You’ll have to leave to go find a bar for something stronger than that.

There’s not much place else to go - so come on in, settle down, and maybe find a familiar face, if you’re lucky.

"I'm not exactly a tour guide, but I think that way goes back to the rooms we came from. And since I didn't see a window or a fire exit..." He was being courteous and trying not to grin, but he lifted a hand and pointed down another way. "I think that's closer to freedom, if that's what you're looking for."

"What? We can't just... leave, can we?"

Wait, has she actually tried to leave? Did they say anything about them being unable to leave the hospital? Kim couldn't recall that.

"I mean... like the hospital. Not the island. If it is an island. They might be lying about the island part. Which would be really silly since they gave all of us a map and stuff, but they could be."

He gave her a bit of a shrug. "Honestly? I don't know. I haven't tried yet. But I don't see any measures put up to stop us. No locks on the doors. No security systems. No guards. Seems kind of like they want us to go check out those maps."

"Huh." She stares down the hallway Steven had pointed out.

"So I guess we can... go."

To the strange outside world. With people, probably? To get jobs maybe? Whatever that was supposed to be like. Or look for places to live?

That sounded... terrifying.

"If you want, seems like." Except she didn't entirely look all that thrilled at the idea, which he found a bit confusing. "Or... you could wait until someone else goes first and see what happens."

That someone else was likely to be him, but no sense in mentioning that right now.

"Well, I want to leave, obviously, but I don't know where... I would go."

She pulled up the map. "...specifically, I mean."

"You think you want to see what kind of places they're offering for you to stay at? Or is that too... easy?" Easy as in 'here's a place to live have fun you're free to go except you're not'.

"Sounds too... crowded." Kim liked her isolation.

"What are you planning on doing? Staying here? The free food's nice, but it's a little too... sterile for my liking." Or maybe he was just tired of a lifetime of hospitals.

"I don't like that option either." She crossed her arms, her shoulders, pushing inward making herself small. "I want to go home."

"I hear you. And I get it, but for now? Looks like we're stuck here. So the best thing to do would be to set yourself up somewhere safe until you can pull that off, right?"

"Safe from what? The scientists? Cuz they grabbed across across a dimensional barrier, there's nowhere safe from them."

"As safe as you can make yourself while you're here. I don't know about you, but I'd rather have four walls and a roof than try to keep an eye on my back and everything else out in the open."

[misanthropicmezzode]

"What, are you afraid of ninja assassins or something? The one thing you don't have to worry about when there are cameras watching your literal every move is if someone is going to home invade you."

"And you're comfortable being out there? In the streets? If I'm going to be stuck here for a while, I don't know about you, but I'd like to at least have somewhere somewhat comfortable and maybe a little safer than out in the open to lay my head."

"Uh, okay." Kim was pretty sure they were starting to have two different conversations.

"Well don't let me stop you. Let me know how the house hunt went."

It was starting to look that way, but then, he hadn't really gotten anything she'd said from the start. "Right." He gave her a sort of small grin, then went back to looking at the pamphlets.

Well that could have gone worse? Probably? Well it didn't matter, Kim retreated to her room to beat herself up about how terribly she messed up that interaction.
