NEW COMERS POST 1

Who: OPEN TO ALL
What: The first wave of newcomers arrive in the hospital.
Where: The Hospital, Center City
When: July 26
Warnings: Please tag any smut or triggers in the comment subject line.

The common room is just as brightly lit and white as the rest of the hospital. There are some scattered seats - large plush chairs and stiff looking couches, as well as wooden chairs at tables - and a TV blaring local soap operas in the corner. A few long tables are set up along the walls, each with a sign dangling down from the front to inform newcomers of what they can find here. Housing, job opportunities, and the Proxima Gamma Information Desk. Minus a few pamphlets about the unique attractions the island has to offer, there isn’t really that much of use on the last table. It’s clearly meant more for tourists than people who have been kidnapped.

Another set of tables hold a variety of snacks; fruits, vegetables, various candies, as well as a table with water, punch, and soda. No alcohol, unfortunately - this is a hospital, after all. You’ll have to leave to go find a bar for something stronger than that.

There’s not much place else to go - so come on in, settle down, and maybe find a familiar face, if you’re lucky.

Vector turned at the voice, spotting the girl with the bowl of candy in her lap. He raised his eyebrows slightly at her statement. Not offended, but curious. That wasn't something he heard people say to him every day.

He inclined his head slightly. "I am as solid as you are." He corrected, wondering where she got her information. It sounded as if she had picked up that he wasn't human. Most people didn't know unless he told them, despite his unique appearance.

"Though you are correct in that I am not human. I am a program from a digital world known as the Grid." He said finally, figuring that clarifying information was a lot better sooner than later.

She took 'as solid as you' as an invitation to dart over and start touching him, which she did, with some impressive alacrity.

"Solid, sure, but its still definitely a projection of some sort. The code all feeds from that disk. Can I see it?" She didn't wait for him to answer, she tried to reach for it.

Vector straightened in surprise as the girl approached quickly and decided to touch him to make sure he was as solid as he said he was. Indeed, he felt as warm and as human as anyone. All his differences were beneath the surface render. The black guard stood patiently, allowing her to sate her curiousity. However when she reached for his disc, he twisted around, his hand darting out and catching her wrist in a gentle though firm grip. Definitely a knee jerk reaction.

"No." He stated sternly, before softening his voice. "A program's disc is a very personal item. I do not let just anyone inspect it." He let her wrist go, his gaze curious. "How do you know all this about me when we have not met before? Most assume that I am biological like they are. You are the first that knows different."

The arm that he grabbed did not have the sensation of flesh. Through the thin barrier of cloth, she it felt of hard, fitted plastic plates. If he didn't notice it before, perhaps now he also noticed that her left eye was totally black, only a ring of white indicating the pupil. A closer look indicated circuitry tracing the edges where blood vessels might otherwise be.

"Oh, uh, sorry." Right, weird non human people still liked personal space, probably. "Well, I can see it, mostly."

Vector was quiet for a moment, studying the girl. He had noted the different texture of her arm, and the appearance of her eye. Unfortunately his scans weren't working at their usual function. He assumed it was because of the non-digital environment. So he wasn't able to get as good a look as she was getting of him.

"I notice that you aren't fully human yourself." He said with quiet curiousity. "What is your name?"

"Kim Ross. Are you gonna... let go of my arm now?"

Vector did so after a slight nod.

"What are you? You are not a program like me. You do not have a disc." He asked, tones curious. "Ah, my name is Vector." He added, realizing that since she had told him her name, it was best to return the favor.

"I'm human - with improvements," she said.

Vector was silent for a few moments at this, studying Kim. "Improvements." He echoed, inclining his head. He shifted to sit down on one of the couches next to the chair that Kim had been sitting in when she had first got his attention.

"Did you do these improvements yourself?" His mouth quirked a little. "I cannot help but be curious. This is a first for me." Well, considering that this was his first time out of a computer, there was a lot of firsts for him here.
misanthropicmezzode: (full of it)

"Yep. From blueprints to prototype to final project." Necessity was the mother of invention.

"Hm...impressive." Vector noted. "What was the purpose for such modifications?" He couldn't help but ask, trying to understand. Programs at times sought out upgrades to improve themselves - so that wasn't completely foreign of an idea. There was also a dark side to it too, where programs did such things illegally. He was curious as to how things like that worked with biologicals.
